I am writing this message during the third week of Advent – the week of joy, and that it truly what our community is right now, joyful. We have just celebrated Mass as a school with Father Renier; our first and second grades are on a field trip, and the rest of the students are preparing for a STEM project, reading about the Nativity Story, reading A Christmas Carol, learning their multiplication facts, or making a surprise for their family.
Our students and families have shown service to others this month. A record 1,300 food items were delivered to the St. Mary’s Food Locker this week. Each class had a particular food item to donate. Fourth grade filled their bin with chili! The other graders were not far behind. Our Hope toy drive yielded over 250 toys for the Epilepsy Foundation in Northern California. This was spearheaded by Mrs. Smith, our third grade teacher.
We are looking forward to a restful Christmas vacation. When we return in January we will be preparing for Catholic Schools Week which begins on January 28, 2018. Prior to that students will be competing in the school Spelling Bee and Geography Bee. Our Academic Decathlon team will be studying hard for diocesan competition in March. Basketball, Cheer and Drama will be in full swing.
January 2018 will have us preparing for the next school year. We begin accepting applications on January 16. Please join us for our Open House on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 1:30 – 3:00 P.M. This follows the noon Mass at St. Joseph which will be sponsored by our Student Council. All are invited to celebrate with us.
May God bless you. Peace and Joy this Christmas and throughout 2018.
Mrs. Susan Kealy
